The latest Volkswagen Transporter models, together with the Mercedes-Benz Vito, are the most economical vans. With the latest Blue Motion technology from Volkswagen, a start / stop system is integrated as standard. In addition, energy is generated when you brake. This brings the Volkswagen Transporter to a consumption of 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers. This is equivalent to a consumption of about 1 in 17!
That’s why the older van models, including the Volkswagen Transporter, Renault Trafic and Mercedes Vito, have a different consumption, which differs per engine. In general, it amounts to a consumption of 1:10 to 1:11. And that while the larger campers usually consume between 1: 6 to 1: 8.
Costs for performing an APK are around 50 euros. A minor service is recommended to be performed every 40.000 km, or every 2 years. The costs of an inspection are approximately 100 euros. The older Transporters (before 2015) are a bit cheaper, around 80 euros per inspection.
Of course, regular maintenance comes at a cost that depends on what needs to be done. A few things that need to be done are changing the timing belt and changing the oil.
Look carefully in the service book after which number of kilometres the timing belt needs to be replaced. The timing belt must be replaced at least every 5 years.
